2.2 Engine problems

2,2 DCI RENAULT ENGINE

Renault diesel 2.2 dCi unit, which may not be as popular as the little brothers, but it can be found in a fairly large number of copies of Laguna, Espace and Vel Satis.
The 2.2 dCi engine is a 4-cylinder with 16 valves and a Common Rail injection. It is complemented by a variable geometry turbocharger, a floatable clutch clutch, a particulate filter and a toothed crank as a drive. The 2.2 dSi engine dates back to 1997. As one of the rare diesel engines, it offers a variety of power options: 110, 115, 130, 136, 140 and 150 hp.

Problems and faults with 2.2 dCi engine

The 2.2 dCi engine is not without error. Among the most serious problems, the crankshaft bearings should be turned, which can be seriously damaged. Another problem is the head breath, which can lead to leakage of cooling fluid, which leads to overheating of the engine. Injection nozzles that are expensive to replace are also sensitive. The EGR valve is also not known for its fail-safe operation. Less problem, however, is the control electronics, which is not without flaws.
In each diesel engine, a swimmer, turbine and particle filter must be considered. Remember that as much as the older car, the more likely it is that these parts are worn out.
The manufacturer recommended changing oil for every 30,000 kilometers. However, the mechanics experience says that this activity (along with new filters) is carried out every 10-15 000 km. According to specialists, this treatment allows a significant extension of engine life.
The benefits of a 2.2 dCi engine are also significant. Even in the weakest variant, the engine offers a lot of power. Consumption is slightly higher than 8 liters in a combined cycle, and there are also those that go below 6 liters.

Should a 2.2 dCi engine be recommended?

Modern diesel engines require much more attention than their turbine predecessors. The introduced engine has a few bad points, but proper and good maintenance can be used for many years.

Problems:

I see white smoke! What is wrong? Instead of fuel burning is burning oil. How can this happen? Cylinder head seal leaks or leak in oil seal in valves. Immediately visit an authorized service!
I see white-blue smoke! What is wrong? There is water in compression space. Because it is not right mix of air and fuel and because water does not burn you see this kind of smoke. How can this happen? Cylinder head seal leaks or damage in cylinder head or damage in engine block. Immediately visit an authorized service!
I see black smoke! What is wrong? There is too much fuel! How can this happen? Can be fault in combustion injectors or in high-pressure pump or there can be irregular sequence of ignition. Immediately visit an authorized service!
If you see black smoke in accelerating is probably fault in EGR valve. The EGR valve helps your car more efficiently and completely burn fuel by recirculating a portion of your exhaust and running it through the combustion process again. This results in a cooler, more complete burn of the fuel which decreases you car's noxious emissions by prohibiting the formation of some harmful gases. In most cases you can clean this valve, but if cleaning does not help is ERG valve probably damaged. I have Renault Espace 2.2 dci and I have disconnect my ERG valve. Car was start smoking, so I clean it. Result was not brilliant and in my country this valve cost 200 euros... So I disconnect cables from it and then I see results I did not expected. My car have more life and fuel consumption is smaller :)
